Home made water colour paints

Sophie has regular paints to work with, but doesn’t have any water colours. Since we can’t go out and buy any, we decided this was the perfect time to find out how we could make our own!
What is great about this activity is that many people already have the ingredients in their cupboards!
If you don’t want to (or don’t have quite enough ingredients), simply halve the recipe to make fewer colours.
What you’ll need:
An ice tray
½ cup of baking soda
¼ cup of vinegar - plain white
1 tsp sugar
¼ cup of cornflour
1 - 2 drops of food colouring per cube
We halved the recipe ourselves.
Method:
*Mix the baking soda and vinegar in a bowl. Watch the mixture fizz! Keep mixing until fully dissolved. *Add the sugar and keep mixing.
*Add the cornflour and stir well!
*Pour the mixture into the ice cube tray - fill each cube about half way.
*Add your colour! One or two drops per cube will be plenty. If you want to make different colours, try mixing colours and see what colour you get!

*Stir each cube with a knife or something narrow that fits in the cube. (Sophie used a chopstick)
*Leave to set - it can be left overnight or a whole day to set.
Start painting!
