Walking With Cicadas

Our insect explorations have taken you into the fascinating world of cicadas.

Kia ora,

Our insect explorations have taken you into the fascinating world of cicadas, and what a creative journey you have been on!

To begin our insect-inspired art, you did something a little different. Instead of paintbrushes, you used tiny insect models. You carefully dipped them into different coloured paint and then made them “walk” across the page. The little footprints they left behind were so interesting! You watched closely as the patterns appeared, noticing how each step created something unique. It was such a thoughtful, hands-on exploration.

Later, you moved on to creating your very own cicadas using pencils, cardboard, glue, and, of course a splash of glitter for that extra sparkle. The trickiest part was the cutting. Cardboard can be stubborn! But you didn’t give up. You adjusted your hands, concentrated carefully, and kept going until you managed it beautifully.

When it was time to draw, you practised “nip, flip, and grip” to help you hold your pencil with control. And off you went! Drawing, gluing, cutting all with growing confidence and independence. You approached each step with determination and pride.

Your finished cicada was something to admire, but what stood out even more was your perseverance. You embraced the challenge, trusted your skills, and worked through each stage with such focus.

You are developing wonderful fine motor strength and creative confidence. Watching you tackle tricky tasks with a “give it a go” attitude is such a joy.

I wonder what creature will inspire your next masterpiece?

The Final Masterpiece!
