🚀✨ Our Exciting Journey Into Space!
September, 2026
What an amazing adventure into space you have had! Over the past few

weeks, you have become our very own little space explorers, travelling through your imaginations far beyond the clouds and discovering the incredible secrets of rockets, space shuttles, satellites, planets and the universe!
Your curiosity has taken you on an exciting journey of discovery. You have learnt how enormous rockets launch from Earth with incredible power, how different sections can separate as the rocket travels higher and higher, and how astronauts travel inside them on their way into space.
You discovered how a space shuttle carried astronauts into space and then returned to Earth, and you were fascinated to learn about the different things astronauts need to eat, drink, sleep and do while they are floating around in space!
You have also investigated the amazing world of satellites. You learnt that satellites travel around Earth high up in space and can help us with communication, weather information, navigation and taking photographs of our beautiful planet, Earth. It has been wonderful listening to your questions and seeing your excitement grow as you discovered just how much is happening above our heads!
You have created rockets, space shuttles, planets and satellites, explored how planets move around the Sun, looked closely at space pictures and diagrams, and shared your growing knowledge with your friends. Every new discovery seemed to open the door to another fascinating question! How amazing!
📚🌙 Our Space Book Week
For our final week of this wonderful topic, we have turned our preschool into a space book exploration station!
You have loved diving into our collection of space books and discovering incredible pictures and information. You have proudly recognised things you have learnt during our project, calling out, “We know that!” and “We learnt about that!”
Seeing you create connections between the books and your personal experiences has been so magical; your lovely Mums and Dads have noticed this too! You have remembered how rockets launch, talked about astronauts, identified planets and satellites, and shared facts with your friends. Sometimes you have even become the teacher, explaining your discoveries to someone else!
Our space books have given you another way to revisit everything you have learnt and have helped bring our wonderful space adventure to life.
A huge thank you to all of you who brought along your special space books, rockets, models, pictures and other wonderful resources to share at our meeting times. You have been so proud to show your friends your treasures and tell everyone what you know. Your contributions have made our project even more exciting and have helped turn our meeting times into wonderful opportunities for everyone to learn together.
As our space project comes to an end, we may be leaving our rockets on the
launch pad for now, but who knows where your curiosity will take you next? Perhaps one day one of our little space explorers will become an astronaut, rocket scientist, or satellite engineer!
For now, we can look back and say…
3… 2… 1… BLAST OFF! 🚀
What an incredible journey!
Te Whāriki – Exploration | Mana Aotūroa: You have developed confidence and a growing sense of wonder as you explored your world, asked questions, investigated how things work, and shared your discoveries with others. You have become increasingly confident as capable and curious learners, knowing that there is always something new and exciting to discover.
