Painting Autumn

May 2026

Autumn has come and is nearly gone, so before all those wonderful leaf colours disappear to make way for winter, you explored a beautiful autumn print‑making activity. It was a chance for you to learn a new kind of printing and to enjoy the magic of the season.

You began by using a big fan brush to sweep light blue paint across your white A4 paper, creating a soft, clear autumn sky. Once your background was ready, you carefully chose four different leaves to print with. You also selected autumn colours, gold, green, brown, yellow, and orange, to paint onto your leaves.

When you pressed your first leaf onto the blue sky and gently peeled it back, your whole face lit up. “Wow, there’s a leaf!” you said, amazed at the crisp, colourful print you had made.

Next came the falling leaves. Just like in the park, most leaves end up on the ground, so you added some to the bottom of your picture. You looked closely at the colours you had already used, then dipped a cotton tip into those same shades and dotted tiny leaves along the ground. Suddenly, your picture looked full and complete.

For the finishing touches, you added the fine twig‑like branches. With a thin felt‑tip pen, you carefully drew a tree trunk and small branches reaching out. When you were done, your autumn artwork looked beautiful—full of colour, detail, and your own creativity. You were just soooo proud of your creation!!
