Meeting Baby Reverie 🫶🏼

What a special morning we had at preschool today!

We have been very excited this week as we explored our healthy plates and learned all about what our bodies need to stay healthy. This led us to wonder: What about babies? After all, every one of us was once a tiny baby too.

To help us investigate, we have had a beautiful baby provocation table set up alongside our healthy plate table. You have all loved exploring how to care for babies, bathing them, reading them stories, feeding them bottles, and gently rocking them to sleep. Some of you even have babies at home, so you already knew the drill and confidently showed your friends how to look after them.

That’s why this morning felt extra special. We had a very real, very tiny visitor, Jethro’s baby sister, Reverie!

Jethro proudly told us she is only 9 weeks old. You were all so gentle and respectful, asking thoughtful questions and remembering to use soft voices. Danielle, Jethro’s mum, loved how you asked permission before touching her and reminded you that you could only touch her little tummy.

During our meeting time, after singing "Good Morning" and our new song, "Yellow Bird," to Reverie, you had the chance to ask Danielle and Jethro lots of questions about how to keep a baby safe, happy, and healthy. Some of your wonderful questions included:

  • “What do you feed a baby?”
  • “How does the baby sleep?”
  • “Where does she sleep?”
  • “How do you clean a baby?”
  • “Where are her nappies?”
  • “Is she Jethro’s brother or sister?”
  • “What does she wear in winter?”
  • “What does she wear in summer?”

You listened so carefully as Danielle explained that babies can’t look after themselves, so they need their Mums, Dads, brothers, and sisters to help keep them safe and healthy.

Danielle then showed us how she helps Reverie fall asleep. She laid out a soft, stretchy blanket, folded one corner in, and gently placed Reverie on top. She demonstrated how to swaddle her, explaining that it helps babies feel safe, just like when they were in their mummy's tummy. She also told us that gentle patting reminds babies of their Mummy’s heartbeat. Right before our eyes, baby Reverie drifted off to sleep. It was such a sweet moment. You were all so captivated, calm, and incredibly caring. We were so lucky to have Jethro speak so confidently and proudly about his new baby sister and to have Danielle share her time and knowledge with us.

A huge thank you to Jethro and Danielle for bringing baby Reverie to visit and helping us learn so much about caring for babies. What a beautiful experience for us all.
